MISC INFORMATION
Personal Property
The children are encouraged to bring something special of interest to show to the group on “share days” (leaves, rocks, insects, pictures, books, etc., but it is necessary to exclude valuable or fragile toys, mouth toys and guns, knives, etc). Please watch the calendar and parent letters for this information.
Helpful Hints
It is our desire that your child’s first school experience be a pleasant and fulfilling one.
Sometimes the first few days will be hard for your child and for you, especially if he/she is not used to being separated from you. Here is how you can help:
1. Bring your child to visit the school prior to his/her first day. Let him/her meet his/her teacher and some of the other children. Let him/her take part in some of the activities if he/she wants to.
2. Before the first day of school, let your child know that you will be leaving him at school and what time you will be picking him up.
3. On the first day of school, bring your child directly to his/her teacher if possible. She will show you to his cubby, in which he/she puts his/her belongings. On the first few days of school, it is important that you leave and not linger too long. Even if your child cries and clings to you, you need to tell him/her goodbye and of your intentions of picking him/her up and an approximate time. Never leave without telling your child goodbye. He/she will need the security of knowing when you intend to pick him/her up. Don’t be alarmed if your child cries the first few times you leave him/her. This usually stops 5-10 minutes after you have gone.
Birthdays and Special Occasions
Birthdays are special to your child and to us, therefore, we are happy to have your child celebrate his/her birthday at school with his/her friends. Please make arrangements with your child’s teacher prior to their special celebration.
Clothing
Dress children to be comfortable during play, indoors and out. We suggest sturdy, washable, “self-help” clothing. Too many layers of clothing or difficult fasteners make it hard for children to be independent in the toileting and are conducive to more accidents. Shoes must be secured to the foot (no clogs or flip flop style shoes) to allow the children to run, jump, and move safely.
Each child needs a complete change of clothes, stored in a labeled bag. Each child will have a cubby for their personal belongings.
Naps
Children scheduled “Full Days” take a nap each afternoon between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Please send a small blanket or beach towel (pillow optional) with your child’s name on it. For ease in storage, child-sized items are needed. The preschool provides a bottom sheet and pillowcase to each child. Please do not take home the sheet or pillowcase; the preschool will launder these weekly. It is your responsibility to launder the blanket and pillow.
