GOALS---ASSESSMENTS---NUTRITION

Preschool Goals
The following is a list of items we strive to accomplish with the children attending First Baptist Preschool:
1. Utilize the rapid learning years of preschool children to their greatest potential.
2. Help the children establish themselves away from home.
3. Help the children learn to interact with their peers.
4. Broaden the children’s growth experiences: mental, physical, spiritual, emotional, and social.
5. Establish the foundation for formal education by forming an early, close home-school relationship, which can provide vital guidance in the primary grades.
6. Develop a positive attitude in each child toward themselves and their achievements.
7. Awaken in each child the realization that to learn is exciting and continuous.
8. Guide the children to a better understanding and a more extensive relationship with adults.
9. Guide the children to a better understanding and a more extensive relationship with Jesus Christ.
10. Develop in the children an understanding of who they are and how to relate to others through Christian guidance in their lives.

Assessments
Assessments will be conducted three times throughout the school year (beginning, middle, and end) by your child’s teacher. An Open house is held at the beginning and end of the school year at which time you may review their assessment with their teacher. Feel free to discuss any concerns you may have at any time throughout the school year.

Meals
A nutritional breakfast is served each morning from 8:30 am-9:00 am and a nutritional snack is served each afternoon at 3:30 pm, according to the state department of regulations. Please make sure that we are aware of any allergies to food that your child may have. We encourage the children to try a taste of all food served.
Parents/Guardians are responsible to provide lunch for their child. Our lunch is scheduled at 11:40 am and includes both full day and half day children.
We suggest you include one of the following in your child’s lunch daily:
bread/cereal/grain preferably whole grain brain or crackers
meat/meat substitutes (peanut butter, eggs, cheese, nuts, beans, meats)
fruit/vegetable (preferably fresh)
milk is provided by the preschool
The preschool does have a microwave and will heat items up as needed.
We ask that you please limit sugary snacks, such as: cookies, marshmallows, soft drinks, Koolaid, doughnuts, cake, Twinkies, Ding-Dongs, granola bars high in sugar, etc. Not only do these have very little nutritional value, but the high sugar content in some of them plays a real havoc with your child’s metabolism, giving them sudden burst of energy, then shortly after leaving them with none.
We do not force the children to eat their entire lunch but will encourage them to eat as much as possible of the protein items and the fruit/vegetable. Foods not eaten will be sent home. This will allow you to know what your child is eating.
To ensure that your child gets the correct lunch, it is important to label lunch boxes and bags clearly with the child’s name.
